Emerald   --   Globe Artichoke
Uniformly beautiful artichokes and lots of them on plants that have shown freeze resistance to 0 degrees F. 1-2 weeks later than Imperial Star, but up to nearly twice the yields under some conditions! Give this a trial. (170 days)

Imperial Star   --   Globe Artichoke
Unquestionably the fastest maturing direct-seeded Green Globe artichoke available today. Excellent uniformity, very few off types. Compact plants can be spaced 18 in. apart in rows 4-5' apart. Eating quality is excellent, tending to be noticeably sweeter and more tender than other Globe Artichokes. Can be grown from seed as an annual when most artichokes require overwintering.

Globe Artichoke Cultural Information

Start seed indoors during February to early March. Use cell trays to sprout the seed in, transplanting to 4" pots soon after emergence. Keep the young artichoke plants well fertilized and the soil moist to encourage the rapid growth that is necessary if you are to mature a crop in the north.

Harvesting Globe Artichokes

Pick artichokes while still tender. Sizes seen at the supermarkets are the biggest you should let the heads get.
